New York is the place where we will get our first look at the 2008 Infiniti G37 coupe, the saucy two-door accompaniment to the conservatively styled new 2007 G35 sedan. Since the G35 sedan impressed us enough to take a spot on our 2007 10Best Cars list, we are quite eager to try on the coupe. Judging from the concept we first saw a year ago, as well as how the production G35 sedan turned out, we don’t expect a major change in the appearance of the car but instead a honing of the previous look accompanied by significant changes to what you don’t see but feel.

Specifically, we're pretty sure the coupe's VQ-derived V-6 will offer a bump in displacement from 3.5 liters to 3.7, with a commensurate increase in horsepower and torque. We also expect the 2008 coupe to have a stiffer structure and improved steering, brakes, and shifter, as we have noted in the sedan. After the G37 coupe debuts in New York, we’ll start to see the cars in Infiniti showrooms this fall.

Of all the variations of the current 911—Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Cabriolet and Targa versions, GT3, and Turbo—nothing quickens the pulse and spins the tires so readily as the GT2, the upcoming version of which is seen here. To create the GT2, Porsche starts with a 911 Turbo, adds power, reduces weight, and removes the all-wheel drive, creating a much more demanding vehicle to quiet all those complaints that the 911 Turbo is just a soulless high-speed appliance.

The previous-generation GT2 boosted engine output 51 horsepower and 52 lb-ft over the Turbo, so expect this new car to boast around 525 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque. Without the traction benefit of all-wheel drive, the GT2 will probably have a difficult time besting the Turbo’s 3.4 second 0-to-60-mph blast, but with the extra power and a weight reduction of about 220 pounds from shedding the all-wheel drive, all of the 911 Turbo’s higher acceleration benchmarks—including its 185-mph top speed—will be packing their bags and heading for second place.

The GT2 is differentiated from the tamer Turbo by different wheels, massive fixed spoiler, the awkwardly grinning cooling vent at the leading edge of the hood, and those nasty gills carved into the rear valance.

Mini held a press conference in Geneva to announce that it will begin selling the (relatively) long-wheelbase Mini Clubman in Europe before the year is out, but there were no Clubmen present when the announcement was made. However, we did spot a Clubman in Geneva. The car, in black with faux graffiti sprayed on the sides, was spotted the night before press days opened, prowling the neighborhoods around BMW’s auto show kick-off soirée and wearing not a shred of camouflage.

As has been reported by spy photographers in the past, the Mini Clubman has just one rear-hinged half-door on the passenger side—the philosophical descendant of full-size and minivan sliding doors—and “barn-style” rear doors in place of the shorter car’s hatch. Mini wouldn’t confirm any on-sale dates, but the car will presumably be available first in Europe, and the U.S. shortly thereafter, probably early 2008.
